I just realized I’ve never once heard that Jack Black, John Goodman, Josh Gad, John Favreau, John Candy, John Belushi, Chris Farley, or any of the other fat male celebrities are “promoting obesity.” Not once in my life. That is almost solely reserved for fat woman.

You’re right and you should say it.

hot take: katniss is a revolutionary female hero because she’s not really a hero. she fights for people, not for a greater good, and she’s willing to do awful things for her family, including killing innocents. she believes in a revolution because she wants freedom, not because “it’s the right thing to do.” she’s not a quirky female hero who always knows what to say. she’s awkward and self-depricating and blunt and not likeable, which is implicitly stated in the books and movies. she’s not comfortable in feminine clothes, she hunts, she’s scared and social uncomfortable in a way that makes others uncomfortable. she’s volitile in a way that’s very different than the normal quirky female lead, she’s not some manic bipolar idea, she’s a real person with genuine issues. she’s harsh and sharp and cruel and mean and she’s not perfect. she’s not even very likeable. she doesn’t speak much to others and when she does, it’s mostly angry or cutting. but she’s astounding and breathtakingly tragic while being real and raw and absolutely human.

additional hot take: peeta is a revolutionary male lead because he’s a baker. he’s a homemaker, essentially. katniss is a hunter and he is a baker. they are the exact opposite of their steryotypical gender roles. she is the deadly one, not him. she is the angry one, not him. where she pushes, he bends. where she screams, he sings. where she runs, he hides.

peeta is soft and kind and good and willing to die so he won’t hurt others. he comforts katniss when she needs it, even when she isn’t that nice to him. he loves her from afar, quietly and not creepily. he isn’t angry. he barely uses any violence in the first book/movie. he’s the injured one, not her. he isn’t the muscular manly stereotype of a male lead, especially in such a violence driven world. he isn’t like four from divergent. he isn’t cold and harsh and mysterous. he’s sweet and open and soft, he’s kind and compassionate.

he’s a baker in a world full of hunters.

vampires-and-witches:

I saw everyone on twitter tearing Emma Watson apart for saying she’s self - partnered instead of single and decided to watch her interview for British Vogue to know what the hell was she trying to say with that. I was very surprised to find a 30 minute video in which amongst other things she talks about the following:

  • She felt undeserving when she was appointed as UN Women goodwill ambassador and sought out Gloria Steinem to learn about feminist activism.
  • She thinks the criticism she received for being a white feminist was useful because it made her educate herself.
  • She says there’s a desperate need to reform the education system in the UK to change the way they are taught the history of how Britain has been involved in foreign affairs and how they profited from slavery.
  • She felt anxious about approaching 30 because there’s a lot of pressure to have a husband and a baby by then and she’s still figuring her life out.
  • She was so young when she was casted in Harry Potter that she doesn’t remember much of her life before it and she went to therapy to deal with her issues with fame. She used to feel very guilty for being unhappy because she thought she should enjoy fame more.
  • The interviewer is a transgender woman and they discuss transgender issues for a while. Emma is in regular contact with a trans child which makes the topic of trans rights emotional for her because she’s very anxious for this kid’s safety.
  • She talks about her role as Meg March in the new Little Women movie and defends that unlike what many people say choosing to be a wife and a mother doesn’t make Meg a less feminist character and quotes a line from the movie, “Just because my dreams are different than yours it doesn’t mean they are unimportant.”
  • She wishes more people would realize she’s not Hermione Granger but also understands why they want to see that in her because Hermione is a symbol for her too.
  • She used to think she could never be happy without a partner and now that she has learnt to navigate that better and is genuinely happy single she’s started to think of herself as self - partnered in contrast to the time when she thought of herself as single = lonely.

Every media outlet decided to focus in an out of context quote from the three minutes she talked about her dating life when the actual interview had a lot of depth and way more important things were discussed. I’m sad and angry but not surprised.

every single negative stereotype about women was dreamt up by men who were projecting. fight me about it.

“women can’t drive”

It is so well known that women are better and safer drivers than men that OUR CAR INSURANCE RATES ARE LOWER. Women get into fewer accidents, get fewer DUIs, and receive fewer speeding tickets than men.

“women never shut up”

Several scientific studies have shown that not only do men talk more than women, they also think that women have been talking for much longer than they actually have. Men interrupt and talk over women, dominate conversations, and still think women talk too much.

“women are shallow”

Lol next

“my wife is my ball and chain lmao”

Multiple studies have shown that marriage between men and women:
Increases male lifespan, decreases female lifespan
Decreases male depression rates, increases female depression rates
Decreases male stress levels, increases female stress levels
Increases male health and happiness, decreases female health and happiness
Increases a man’s chance of getting a raise or promotion, decreases a woman’s chances of getting a raise or promotion

“women are too emotional”

Men love to say this about women after hurting them, in order to shift the blame and dismiss their feelings in one go. In reality, women are taught to hold our tongues and control ourselves quite literally from birth. We’re taught to put men’s needs and wants ahead of our own emotions regardless of the personal cost. Men are taught to do more or less whatever the fuck they want to women. Men take their emotions out on women while women are expected to shove theirs down.

I could go on and on but I don’t really think I need to.

Don’t know if I agree or not, but it’s definitely an interesting point.

the nice thing about statistics is that you don’t actually have to agree with them in order for them to be true

I’m not a Jesus freak so I don’t get this post

Prosperity gospel is basically a bastardization of Christian doctrine that encourages a belief set that’s basically “if I’m well off that’s God’s Plan and the better I believe the more God with give me”, it’s really big with megachurch freaks and other off-the-rails protestants and there’s a lot of unspoken assumption baked in that poverty is a divine punishment. All the bible verses are like, Jesus saying rich people can’t go to heaven and that sort of thing.

lilo was PEAK weird little girl representation like. all “weird” disney characters just fall under quirky cute no lilo was IT. she gave peanut butter sandwiches to a FISH because IT CONTROLLED THE WEATHER. the range

she made her dolls head too big so she created a scenario where a bug planted eggs in its ear and the dolls upset because it only has a few more days to live. no other character on earth has even come close to weird girl culture like lilo she did that for us
